"Wild About Hammer" is the 26th episode of the television series Sledge Hammer! and the fourth episode of the series' second and final season. It originally aired on ABC in the United States on October 8, 1987.[1]

Plot summary

Police officer Elizabeth Jenkins (Beverly Leech) falls madly in love with Hammer after an incident where he apprehends a group of bank robbers. She attempts to advance toward him, but when he rejects her, she kidnaps Doreau and threatens to kill her unless he gives in to her.

Production notes

The episode sparked controversy when the epilogue satirized the trend of coloring black & white films. Following the commercial break, a disclaimer read: "The following tag was shot in black and white, then artificially recolored. We promise you will not be able to see the difference." The scene was intentionally altered not only in color, but also in tint, hue, brightness and contrast – prompting viewers to call their local ABC stations and complain about the broadcast quality. In response, Spencer recorded an apology message for ABC's phone lines.

The scene of Elizabeth inhaling from an oxygen mask is a parody of Dennis Hopper's character in the 1986 film Blue Velvet.

During the fight scene at Elizabeth's apartment, an issue of Cracked featuring Hammer is seen on the coffee table.
